Good News and What I'm Reading
Let's start with the good news: I will be a Region 2 Arts Council Artist Fellow for 2019/2020! This award will go a long way toward obtaining a better computer and researching/writing a new manuscript. It feels good to have financial support for my poetry.
I'm trying to read more, to feed the part of me that loves a good story. I have just started reading The Grammarians by Cathleen Schine. I heard about this novel, about twin sisters who love words, on the podcast The Librarian Is In from the New York Public Library.
I also try to read lots of poetry. If you want to learn how to write poetry--read, read, read! Right now I am finishing up Jillian Weise's newest collection, Cyborg Detective. Her first collection, The Amputee's Guide to Sex, gave me to courage to start writing about my own disability.
Here in Bemidji, the fall colors are now past their peak. We've already had a first snow, but it has already melted. Enjoy the jacket weather!
